Thank you for visiting our website!

Hello everyone, I am Shouichi Miyawaki, Professor and Chair at Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Kagoshima University. The faculty of Dentistry and our orthodontic department are only one faculty and department in southern Kyushu. So far, we have cooperated with other dentists and medical doctors inside and outside of Kagoshima University Hospital. We have given the following advanced orthodontic treatment to patients with severe malocclusion, and have performed the following studies.
We respect each patient's desires. In addition to general orthodontic treatment, depending on the patient's request, custom-made devices invisible from the front and/or miniscrews as skeletal anchorage are also available. Skeletal anchorage makes it possible to move teeth which was difficult in conventional orthodontic treatment. Patients with jaw deformity including mandibular protrusion, and patients with various congenital anomaly including cleft lip and/or cleft palate have been treated by various specialties with insurance. We also have treated patients with obstructive sleep apnea, bruxism and temporomandibular disorder which may cause pain in the jaws or difficulty in opening mouth.
Our orthodontic department and clinic are the only institutions with a basic and practical training program approved by The Japanese Orthodontic Society and The Japanese Society of Temporomandibular Join in southern Kyusyu and Okinawa area. For last decade, we have grown up many orthodontic specialists and two professors of other universities.
We are studying to reveal the causes of bruxism by examining the function of the mouth and the upper gastrointestinal tract for providing safe treatment with high-quality. Also, we are developing a new orthodontic device to increase the stability of miniscrew.
We will offer our advice for your treatment or your education if you visit us. If you are worried about dentition or occlusion or interested in our post-graduate course, please do not hesitate to contact us.
