Features of our department

We provide patients with various high-quality orthodontic treatments in cooperation with other dentists and doctors at Kagoshima University Hospital. Our clinic serves the southern area of Kyusyu, and we specialize in the orthodontic treatment of patients with congenital diseases, including cleft lip and palate. We also treat a number of patients using cutting-edge technologies such as miniscrews and lingual brackets.

Furthermore, practitioners in the orthodontics department perform various kinds of clinical research. Noteworthy is our contribution to the development of new skeletal anchorage device, as well as our studies that lie on the interface between dentistry and gastrointestinal medicine. Our results have been published online by a top Orthodontics journal (American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics:http://www.ajodo.org/), and have been presented in a TV program broadcast by the Japanese public Broadcasting Corporation, NHK.

In addition, we educate undergraduate and postgraduate students in orthodontics. We are an official educational department for the Japanese Orthodontic Society and the Japanese Society for the Temporomandibular Joint. If a patient wants to participate in our research, we fully safeguard his/her personal information by following a method approved by the ethical committee of our institution.
